Marquee TV Acquires New Documentary Featuring Sheku Kanneh-Mason
EXCLUSIVE: The arts-focused streaming service Marquee TV has recently acquired the rights to the documentary My Favourite Melodies from C Major Entertainment. This documentary stars the renowned British cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason.
The documentary is scheduled to premiere globally on Marquee TV starting June 21, 2026. It showcases Kanneh-Mason as he performs and discusses the musical influences that have shaped his career. These range from traditional Welsh pieces like Myfanwy, to the works of iconic musicians such as Bob Marley and Leonard Cohen, and also includes genres like hip-hop and jazz, alongside classical composers like Franz Liszt and Felix Mendelssohn.
One highlight of the documentary features a touching duet performance of Mendelssohn’s Song Without Words, where Sheku collaborates with his talented sister, pianist Isata Kanneh-Mason.
Sheku Kanneh-Mason: A Decade of Musical Influence
At just 27 years old, Sheku Kanneh-Mason has been a significant figure in the classical music scene for over a decade. His journey to fame began in earnest in 2016 when he made history as the first Black musician to win the prestigious BBC Young Musician Award since its inception in 1978.
During this period, Kanneh-Mason was a member of the pioneering Chineke! Orchestra, notable for being Europe’s first professional orchestra comprised mostly of Black and minority ethnic musicians. His career reached a broader audience in 2018 when he performed at the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Moreover, his 2020 album Elgar broke new ground as he became the first cellist to enter the top 10 of the UK album charts.
The documentary also includes archival footage of Sheku performing with his siblings Isata and Braimah during their early years, appearing on the children’s TV show Yo Gabba Gabba. The Kanneh-Mason family, which includes seven musically gifted siblings, first captured the public’s attention in the UK in 2015 when six of them performed on Britain’s Got Talent.
Produced by C Major Entertainment, the acquisition of My Favourite Melodies was facilitated by negotiations between Marquee TV and C Major, represented by Elmar Kruse.
