This summer marks the end of Peter Parker’s extended absence from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Ever since the climax of Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans have eagerly awaited the next chapter for the beloved superhero in the MCU. Despite Earth-616 forgetting the man behind the Spider-Man mask, our hero continues his vigilant protection of New York City.
The upcoming film Spider-Man: Brand New Day will see Tom Holland reprise his role as the iconic character. Sony Pictures has just dropped a new trailer for this Phase 6 movie, which you can view below:
The latest trailer provides a recap of Tom Holland’s initial trilogy, highlighting Peter Parker’s evolution from a high school student to a young adult. The narrative of Spider-Man: Brand New Day unfolds prior to the events of Avengers: Doomsday, with the major ensemble movie set to release in December.
A standout moment in the new footage includes a confrontation between Spider-Man and Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk. The reason behind their battle remains unclear, but there is speculation that the Savage Hulk might be manipulated by a mysterious hooded figure seen in earlier trailers.
Further supporting these speculations, Michael Mando reprises his role as Scorpion. At one point, he confronts Peter, asking, “You think I am Scorpion?” This hints at potential mind control affecting Mac Gargan.
Aside from Scorpion, Spider-Man: Brand New Day features a roster of villains including the Hand, who are making their return to the MCU following their defeat on the The Defenders TV show. Spider-Man must now tackle this ninja clan.
In addition, Marvin Jones III, known for voicing Tombstone in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, will portray the character in live-action for the first time in the MCU. The Department of Damage Control will also play a significant role in this summer’s film, introducing X-Men adversary William “Bill” Metzger, portrayed by Tramell Tillman.
Fortunately, Holland’s Spider-Man won’t be facing these threats alone. Jon Bernthal returns as Frank Castle, transitioning from The Punisher: One Last Kill to the big screen within the Marvel Studios framework, alongside Spider-Man.
While Sadie Sink’s role remains undisclosed, there are strong rumors suggesting she will portray X-Men’s Jean Grey. She is also expected to appear in Avengers: Secret Wars, set to begin filming this summer, though Marvel Studios has yet to officially confirm her participation.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into theaters on July 31.
