Star-Studded Cast for ‘Rapture’: Medieval Zombies Unleashed by Poulter, Connor & Ríos!

Will Poulter, Kit Connor & Manu Ríos To Star In Medieval Zombie Horror ‘Rapture’ For Elevation, 2AM & Brookstreet; HanWay Launching Sales For Cannes

EXCLUSIVE: Will Poulter (Midsommar), Kit Connor (Heartstopper) and Manu Ríos (Elite) have been confirmed as the leading actors in the highly anticipated horror movie Rapture, which will be introduced by HanWay Films at the Cannes market.

The plot is set in a fascinating historical context. Taking place in 1348 during the Middle Ages in England, the narrative centers around Lansley Abbey, a secluded monastery in Yorkshire made of stone, where ten monks live a life defined by rigorous discipline and religious commitment. Their calm existence is shattered with the arrival of a messenger bearing ominous news from the outside world, who quickly begins to exhibit signs of a mysterious disease. An aggressive plague is sweeping across the country, characterized at first by a hemorrhagic fever, and transforming the afflicted into “revenants”—restless, undead creatures. As the disease encroaches, Lansley Abbey turns into a scene of conflict: desperate outsiders plead for sanctuary while those infected pose a threat to breach its defenses. Inside, the monks are divided by a deep ethical dilemma—whether to aid the sick or to safeguard the wealth of knowledge the abbey has protected for centuries. As the death toll rises, so does the capacity for both selfless heroism and devastating treachery among the brothers, pushing them to ponder the profound question: what does it mean to be human?

This film represents the first feature directed by playwright and director Jordan Tannahill. Production is scheduled to start later this year in Hungary. The movie is being produced by Elevation Pictures (Infinity Pool), 2AM (Past Lives), and Brookstreet Pictures (The Brutalist). Eli Arenson (Lamb) will serve as the director of photography. Domestic sales are managed by 2AM.

Poulter and Connor are collaborating again after their recent roles in Alex Garland’s Warfare. Meanwhile, Spanish actor and singer Ríos is also known for his role in Pedro Almodovar’s Strange Way Of Life.

Gabrielle Stewart, CEO of HanWay Films, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating: “Jordan’s vision for Rapture has completely captivated us. It’s uncommon to encounter a zombie horror film so richly atmospheric and entrenched in an authentic historical setting, featuring complex characters faced with severe moral questions. It’s clear why such talented actors like Will, Kit, and Manu have been drawn to this project, along with the support of first-rate producers.”

Tannahill’s notable works include the plays Late Company and Botticelli in the Fire. His novel The Listeners was a contender for the Giller Prize and has been adapted into a limited series by the BBC set to premiere in 2024.

Tannahill is represented by CAA, Casarotto, and Jackoway Austen. Will Poulter’s representatives include WME, Hamilton Hodell, and Sloane Offer. Kit Connor is managed by Independent Talent, WME, and Hansen, Jacobson. Manu Rios is also represented by WME.
