Exciting New Project: “The Painted Bride”
EXCLUSIVE: Jeremy Allen White, acclaimed for his performance in the Golden Globe-winning series The Bear, alongside Mandy Patinkin of Homeland fame and Oscar-nominated actress Isabella Rossellini from Conclave, are confirmed to feature in Jeremiah Zagar’s new movie The Painted Bride.
Charades and New Europe, who have previously worked together, have secured the international distribution rights for the film and are set to introduce it at the Cannes Film Market. Representation of the North American rights will be handled by WME Independent.
Jeremiah Zagar, who first made waves at Sundance with his debut We The Animals, which was nominated for five Independent Spirit Awards, and who also directed the Netflix success Hustle starring Adam Sandler, has recently completed Task for HBO with Mark Ruffalo in the lead. This series is anticipated to premiere later this year.
In The Painted Bride, Jeremy Allen White portrays Elisha, who spends his days swimming, cooking, and looking after his family. By night, he becomes engrossed in a new endeavor that focuses on his young son and his ailing father. A crisis pulls him back to his hometown of Baltimore, where his life begins to unravel and transform in profound ways.
The film is notable for its creative integration of live action and pioneering stop-motion animation techniques.
Zagar has described the movie as an exploration of masculinity and legacy, stating, “It is a narrative about blood, duty, family, art, and above all, love.”
The production team includes Jeremy Yaches of Public Record, known for We The Animals and Hustle, along with Paul Mezey and Andrew Goldman of Present Company, and Klaudia Śmieja-Rostworowska of Madants. Their previous works include critically acclaimed movies like Marcel the Shell with Shoes On and Beasts Of The Southern Wild.
The development of the film was in collaboration with Fit Via Vi Productions and it is financially backed by In The Cut Productions, Big Love Studios, and AF Creative Media. Executive producers include Daniel Ginsberg, James Bruce, and Brian & Dayna Lee.
Jan Naszewski, CEO of New Europe Film Sales, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, saying, “I’ve been an admirer of Jeremiah’s work for many years. He is an incredibly skilled director whose films are imbued with authenticity and deep emotion. We are thrilled to support him and his talented team on this exciting project, alongside a stellar cast and partners.”
Jeremy Allen White is represented by WME, Entertainment 360, and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush, Kaller, Gellman, Meigs & Fox. Mandy Patinkin works with CAA and Echo Lake Management, while Isabella Rossellini is under UTA’s representation.
