The 23rd Morelia International Film Festival, held from October 10th to 19th, wrapped up with a celebratory event at the Teatro Melchor Ocampo. Throughout the festival, numerous films were recognized from its Official Selection and Impulso Morelia segments, the latter being the 11th installment dedicated to supporting post-production projects.
Under the guidance of chairperson Ava DuVernay, the jury reviewed 103 films, both Mexican and international. Notable screenings included Lynne Ramsay’s Die, My Love, Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, Bill Condon’s Kiss of the Spider Woman, Yorgos Lanthimos’s Bugonia, Park Chan-wook’s No Other Choice, and Mascha Schilinski’s Sound of Falling. The festival was graced by several esteemed guests such as Stellan Skarsgård (Sentimental Value), Juliette Binoche (In-I: In Motion), Jodie Foster (Vie privée), and Gael García Bernal celebrating the 25th anniversary of Amores Perros, among others.
