Shooting Commences for Ciro Visco’s Debut Film ‘Super Santos’
Production is now underway in Naples for the new film Super Santos, directed by Italian filmmaker Ciro Visco. The movie is a loose adaptation of Roberto Saviano’s 2022 novel ‘Cuore Puro’. Saviano is known for his previous works that inspired the critically acclaimed Gomorrah film and television series.
Super Santos represents Visco’s first major project as a director, transitioning from his role as an assistant director on projects like the Gomorrah series and Doc: In Your Hands. Additionally, he directed the upcoming 2025 Sky Original series Gangs of Milano – Le nuove storie del Blocco.
Exploring Youth and Street Soccer in Naples
The narrative of Super Santos centers around four young friends bonded through their passion for street soccer, set against the backdrop of Naples, a city notorious for its Camorra crime syndicate.
The film draws inspiration from Saviano’s 2022 book, which itself is an expansion of his earlier 2011 story titled ‘Super Santos’. This title alludes to the famous orange and black Super Santos soccer ball, a symbol deeply embedded in the street soccer culture of Naples.
Collaborative Screenwriting and a Dynamic Cast
Roberto Saviano teamed up with Stefano Piedimonte and Ciro Visco to craft the screenplay for this ambitious project.
The film features a mix of established and emerging talent, including Francesco Di Leva (The Leopard), Massimiliano Rossi and Antonia Truppo (both from Portobello), and newcomers such as Thomas D’Angelo, Ciro Esposito, Ciro Dommarco, and Danilo D’Ambrosio.
Production and Support
The production of Super Santos is a collaborative effort between Mediawan’s Palomar and PiperFilm, with Carlo Degli Esposti, Nicola Serra, Marco Grifoni, Massimiliano Orfei, Luisa Borella, and Davide Novelli steering the production.
This film is being produced and distributed with the aid of the Fund for the Development of Investments in Cinema and Audiovisual of the Ministry of Culture – Directorate-General for Cinema and Audiovisual, ensuring substantial backing for the project.
Behind the Scenes Talent
The film has secured a high-profile production crew to bring this story to life. Cristiano Di Nicola is the director of photography, Ludovica Ferrario handles production design, Mariano Tufano is the costume designer, and Marcello Saurino takes on the role of editor.
Over a period of six weeks, the team will shoot the film in various locations across Naples.

Upon completion, Super Santos is set for distribution across theaters in Italy by PiperFilm and will reach international audiences through PiperPlay.
