Toni Collette Uncovers Dark Secrets in Netflix’s ‘Wayward’: School for Troubled Teens Exposed!

Watch: Toni Collette & Mae Martin Hint At Dark Secrets At School For Troubled Teens In Netflix Drama ‘Wayward’

Mysterious Events at Tall Pines Academy

Something unusual is unfolding in the town of Tall Pines, and Mae Martin is on the case.

In her latest venture, a Netflix limited series she both created and stars in, Toni Collette delivers a spine-tingling performance. Collette portrays Evelyn Wade, who heads the enigmatic Tall Pines Academy, a boarding school advertised as a haven for troubled teenagers. A promotional clip for the academy boldly claims to “solve the problem of adolescence.”

Behind thick, imposing glasses, Evelyn ominously welcomes a new, forcefully restrained student saying, “I can’t wait for you to meet the new you.”

A mysterious voice in the trailer ominously remarks about the school, “Children go in, something else comes out.”

New Beginnings and Dark Secrets

Martin takes on the role of Alex Dempsey, a police officer who moves to the idyllic yet secretive town of Tall Pines. Alex’s wife, played by Sarah Gadon, is expecting a child and is also an alumna of Evelyn’s academy.

However, the picturesque facade of Tall Pines quickly begins to crumble. Alex befriends two academy students, Abbie (played by Sydney Topliffe) and Leila (played by Alyvia Alyn Lind), who are both eager to flee the school. Through these connections, Alex starts to uncover disturbing events in Tall Pines, including a series of disappearances that seem to lead back to the academy and Evelyn herself.

Set to captivate audiences, the drama spans eight episodes and will be available on Netflix starting September 25. Netflix describes the series as a “thrilling and genre-bending narrative about the age-old conflict between generations, the extremes of friendship and loyalty, and the inevitable revelation of buried secrets.”

The series has been selected for the official lineup at the Toronto International Film Festival. Before its global debut in Toronto, Martin, who previously co-created the acclaimed comedy-drama Feel Good, will discuss the new series and her career in a session hosted by Deadline at TIFF.

Titled Wayward, the show is among the first original productions by Netflix Canada. Martin also acts as co-showrunner and executive producer alongside Ryan Scott. The series features guest star Patrick J. Adams and is produced by Objective Fiction and Sphere Media.
