Wscripted Reveals Its Sixth Annual Cannes Screenplay List
EXCLUSIVE: Wscripted has recently announced its sixth edition of the Cannes Screenplay List, which features an array of projects from female and non-binary screenwriters and filmmakers. These creators are actively seeking partners for production and financing. (scroll down for full list)
This initiative is supported by MUBI, a platform known for its commitment to promoting women’s voices in the film industry. MUBI’s recent acquisitions include the film Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma by Jane Schoenbrun, which opened the Cannes 2026 Un Certain Regard.
This year’s list includes 30 compelling screenplays such as When We Were Sisters by Fatimah Asghar, who is celebrated for her work on the HBO web series Brown Girls and Disney+’s Ms. Marvel.
Among the highlighted filmmakers is Chloe Abrahams, a Sri Lankan-British director, with her narrative feature debut Before the Echo Makes a Sound, set in Sri Lanka. Abrahams previously gained recognition for her documentary The Taste of Mango, which received the Best Debut Documentary at the British Independent Film Award and the Audience Award at the BFI London Film Festival.
Also featured is Angelique Knights, a Canadian Screen Award-winning producer for Bria Mack Gets a Life. Knights is making her directorial debut with Ecdysis, a feature set in the early 2000s music video modeling scene.
A new approach was introduced this year, with screenplays being presented on the digital platform, Wscripted+, to enhance the connection between projects and producers.
Ellie Jamen, the Founder of Wscripted, explained, “After five years of pitching projects from the Cannes Screenplay List at the Cannes Film Market, we opted for a new strategy in 2026. We are now allowing producers to explore the shortlist directly through the advanced features of Wscripted+, aiming to streamline the development and financing stages.”
Jamen further noted that this innovative technological approach is intended to dismantle barriers, allowing producers to more easily discover projects that align with their creative visions. This effort is crucial in promoting outstanding works by women on the Cannes Screenplay List.
Success stories from previous nominees include Jumai Yusuf’s Cocoa Doll, from the Second Cannes Screenplay List, which has been secured by international sales agent Fearfolks with production by Jake Casey and Jonathan Unger. Additionally, A Beautiful Journey by Nathalie Marchak, from the inaugural list, will star Shailene Woodley, with production by Anonymous Federation and Gabman.
This year, Wscripted received 300 applications for the list.
