Venice Classics Unveils Restored Films for This Year’s Festival
The Venice Classics section of the film festival this year will present 19 restored films, including the 1966 British film Cul-de-sac by Roman Polanski, which has been restored by Fixafilm. Below is the complete list of films that will be showcased.
Additional highlights of the Venice Classics include the revamped version of Tinto Brass’ 1967 pop thriller Deadly Sweet, filmed in London and featuring Jean-Louis Trintignant and Ewa Aulin. This film will be screened in the festival’s pre-opening event. Also making a return to the Venice screen is John Cassavetes’s Minnie and Moskowitz, originally shown at the 1966 Venice Film Festival and now restored by Universal.
The Film Students Jury, led by director Daniele Vicari in its thirteenth year, will award the Venice Classics prizes for Best Restored Film. The jury consists of 24 film students nominated by their professors from various Italian film schools, including DAMS and Ca’ Foscari University of Venice.
Overseeing the official competition of the festival is Maggie Gyllenhaal, accompanied by a diverse panel including Tunisian director and screenwriter Kaouther Ben Hania, British composer and artist Daniel Blumberg, Italian scholar Francesco Casetti, French filmmaker Xavier Giannoli, Afghan filmmaker Shahrbanoo Sadat, and Hong Kong director and producer Johnnie To.
The 83rd edition of the Venice International Film Festival is scheduled to run from September 2 to September 12, 2026.
