Official Preview of Kaouther Ben Hania’s “The Voice of Hind Rajab”
The newly released trailer for Kaouther Ben Hania’s film The Voice of Hind Rajab has just been made public.
The narrative of the film revolves around a young girl from Palestine, Hind Rajab, who tragically lost her life in Gaza the previous year due to an attack by Israeli forces. The attack also claimed the lives of six members of her family.
During an attempt to evacuate Gaza City, the vehicle carrying Rajab and her relatives was targeted and struck. The devastating attack resulted in the deaths of her uncle, aunt, and three cousins. After the initial strike, Rajab and another cousin, who both survived the first attack, managed to contact the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) from their vehicle to seek emergency assistance. Tragically, when help arrived, the car was discovered with both Rajab and the responding paramedics deceased. This incident led to worldwide protests, including one at Columbia University where students went as far as renaming Hamilton Hall to Hind’s Hall in her memory.
The film uniquely features actual audio recordings from Hind Rajab prior to her untimely death and has garnered the support of numerous prominent figures in the entertainment industry, including Brad Pitt, Joaquin Phoenix, Rooney Mara, Alfonso Cuaron, and Jonathan Glazer.
From the Venice Film Festival, critic Damon Wise of Deadline highlighted the film as essential viewing, describing The Voice of Hind Rajab as a crucial work that could serve as a pivotal point for those advocating for Gaza. Wise praised the film’s intense approach, noting its use of close, handheld camera work that adds a palpable sense of urgency to the storytelling.
