Apple TV+ Introduces New Romantic Comedy Series Featuring Former Child Prodigies
Apple TV+ is set to launch a new romantic comedy series that explores the lives of two former child prodigies. The series, titled Prodigies, is being created and led by Will Sharpe, who also stars in the show alongside Ayo Edebiri, known for her role in The Bear. Edebiri will also serve as an executive producer on the project.
The storyline centers around Didi, played by Edebiri, and Ren, portrayed by Sharpe. Having been close since their childhood, the duo, now in their early thirties, begin to reevaluate their lives. They ponder if their mundane daily routines truly reflect the exceptional potential they demonstrated as children. This introspection naturally extends to their relationship, leading them to question its future trajectory.
The production of Prodigies is handled by Sister, the team behind Black Doves, which previously collaborated with Sharpe on projects such as Giri/Haji and Flowers.
Both Sharpe and Edebiri are seeing a significant rise in their careers. Sharpe recently appeared in the second season of The White Lotus and is involved in multiple upcoming projects including Lena Dunham’s Too Much on Netflix, and a Sky series where he depicts Mozart, created by Joe Barton of Black Doves. Meanwhile, Edebiri, who earned an Emmy for her performance as Sydney in The Bear, is set to appear in James L. Brooks’ Ella McCay and Luca Guadagnino’s After the Hunt.
Sharpe not only created and wrote Prodigies, but he also takes on the role of executive producer along with Edebiri. They are joined by Jane Featherstone, Naomi de Pear, and Katie Carpenter from Sister in the production team.
