An Ideal Candidate for Amazon’s James Bond Reimagining
A rising star in the James Bond series is being touted as the ideal lead for Amazon’s upcoming refresh of the iconic spy saga. This new rendition of the James Bond movies marks Amazon’s first production of the series since acquiring the creative rights in 2025, with Amy Pascal and David Heyman at the helm. The reboot, which is also the 26th film in the series, will be directed by Denis Villeneuve of Dune: Part Two fame and scripted by Steven Knight, known for Peaky Blinders.
Potential New Face for James Bond
During an interview with Radio Times Gaming at the BAFTA Game Awards, actor Lennie James expressed his support for Patrick Gibson to be the next James Bond. Gibson, who provides the voice and motion-captured performance for Bond in the upcoming video game 007 First Light, impressed James with his portrayal. The game, set to release on May 27, 2026, explores Bond’s early days as an MI6 agent, with James playing his mentor, John Greenway. James highlighted Gibson’s exceptional performance in the game, suggesting that his talents should be considered for the live-action film role.
“He’s fantastic in our version of Bond, and I genuinely think he should be a candidate for the main role that they’re trying to find someone for. I’m sure he’s under consideration. The people in control would be mad not to consider him,” James stated.
The video game aims to mirror the cinematic quality of the James Bond films, using advanced motion capture technology to create lifelike animations and performances. This has led James to believe that Gibson would seamlessly transition into a live-action adaptation of Bond.
Gibson’s Versatile Acting Career
Patrick Gibson is no newcomer to significant roles, having portrayed a young Dexter Morgan in Dexter: Original Sin, a series set 15 years before the original. His other notable roles include Steve Winchell in The OA and Nikolai Lantsov in Shadow and Bone. Recently, he starred in the 2022 drama Good Girl Jane and led the fantasy comedy The Portable Door, alongside Sophie Wilde and Christoph Waltz.
While Gibson’s full performance as Bond in 007 First Light remains to be seen until the game’s release, the strong endorsement from James, combined with Gibson’s proven track record in both television and film, presents him as a promising candidate for the role of a younger James Bond. This could potentially align with Amazon’s vision for a rejuvenated narrative in the franchise’s next cinematic chapter.
As speculation continues over who will next portray 007 on the big screen, Gibson stands out as a strong contender, especially with an established actor like Lennie James advocating for his casting. Whether or not he will secure the role remains uncertain, but the potential for Gibson to step into the iconic shoes of James Bond is undoubtedly there, paving the way for a fresh and exciting take on the beloved character.
