Webtoon Entertainment has recently promoted Yongsoo Kim to the position of President, placing him in charge of the company’s worldwide operations.
Both Webtoon and Wattpad are subsidiaries of the parent company Naver. Webtoon Productions has been actively developing content from both platforms into film and television projects, according to a recent report on their development and production division, led by industry expert David Madden.
The company is currently developing several major projects including: Chasing Red featuring Madelaine Petsch and Gavin Casalegno; a film adaptation of Flor M. Salvador’s ‘Boulevard’ in collaboration with Sony Pictures International Productions; Love Advice from the Great Duke of Hell in partnership with Ron Howard and Brian Grazer’s Imagine Entertainment; and Something’s Wrong In Stagtown with Margot Robbie’s Lucky Chap Entertainment.
As the newly appointed President, Yongsoo Kim will oversee the film and TV division. He has been promoted from his previous roles as Chief Strategy Officer and Head of Global, having joined Webtoon Entertainment in 2022. He was a pivotal figure in the company’s 2024 IPO. During his tenure, Webtoon has launched Video Episodes, expanded its Creator programs, and enhanced the integration of Webtoon Productions, previously known as Wattpad Webtoon Studios.
With the new leadership structure, Webtoon’s founder & CEO Junkoo Kim will concentrate on long-term strategic planning and vision. Meanwhile, Yongsoo Kim, as President, will manage global operations and implementation. He will also serve on the company’s board. CFO & COO David Lee will maintain his current position.
Junkoo Kim commented on Yongsoo Kim’s appointment, expressing confidence in his capabilities: “As CSO and Head of Global at Webtoon, he enhanced our operations in the U.S. and internationally, fostering a culture centered on innovation and performance. Yongsoo’s promotion to President emphasizes our focus on disciplined execution as we expand globally, continuing to innovate boldly while concentrating on our long-term goal to become the leading technology platform for storytelling, enabling anyone to create stories for everyone.”
Before joining Webtoon, Yongsoo Kim worked at KKR and was a key member of the team that launched Tesla’s operations in Korea.
