Disney+ Collaborates with A24 UK on a New Series
For the first time, Disney+ is joining forces with A24 UK to produce a comedy-drama series. This new project explores the lives of adult siblings who face a life-altering situation when their father is implicated in a murder case.
Introducing “DAD”
The series, titled DAD, is the brainchild of emerging talent Clem Garritty. Garritty, noted for his work on the Showtime pilot Jonah Kills and his contributions to Charlie Covell’s Life is Strange, brings his creative flair to this engaging new project.
Series Acquisition and Production Details
Disney+ secured the series in a competitive bidding war that included major broadcasters like the BBC, ITV, and Sky, ultimately deciding to label the show as a Hulu Original. The series is set to begin casting soon.
DAD delves into the lives of Sammy, Ned, and Jess, three siblings whose world is turned upside down when their father is accused of a murder that allegedly occurred during their childhood. The accusation forces the siblings to reunite and dig through their family’s secretive history. As they confront what they uncover, they must also grapple with the stark and often darkly humorous realities of their current lives.
Disney+’s Global Strategy and Collaborations
Following successful international ventures like Rivals and Alice and Steve, Disney+ has increased its investment in the EMEA region. The collaboration with A24 UK on DAD marks a significant step, building on previous partnerships such as those for Hulu’s Ramy and the upcoming FX on Hulu series The Marriage Plot featuring Sadie Sink.
Lee Mason, VP of scripted content for Disney+ EMEA, praised DAD as a “bold, brilliantly original series that transforms a dark and emotionally complex premise into a narrative that is both deeply compassionate and unexpectedly humorous.” He emphasized the central themes of family and identity, and the troubling doubts about how well we truly know those who have profoundly impacted our lives. Mason expressed enthusiasm for collaborating with Clem Garritty and the A24 team to bring this distinctive story to Disney+ audiences.

In the UK, A24 is also engaging in other high-profile projects, including Apple TV’s The Husbands starring Juno Temple, Molly Manning Walker’s Major Players, and Michaela Coel’s upcoming First Day on Earth.
The series DAD was greenlit by Angela Jain, Head of Content at Disney+ EMEA, and Lee Mason. It will be produced by A24 with Clem Garritty as the writer and creator. Garritty is represented by Lark, WME, and Kaplan/Perrone.
