A prominent actress from the popular HBO series Game of Thrones shared significant details about her ultimately unused role in Thor: Love and Thunder.
Following the conclusion of Game of Thrones, the actress continued her career in television, appearing in series such as The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, Masters of the Universe, and White House Plumbers. She secured a role in the fourth installment of the Thor saga, released in 2022, but her scenes were excluded from the final film by director Taika Waititi.
Additional information about these omitted scenes was shared recently. In a discussion with ScreenRant‘s Liam Crowley for Ballistic, Headey revealed that her character was part of a trio of witches alongside Angus Sampson and Da’Vine Joy Randolph, which she described as “very, very funny and kind of insane.” Waititi introduced this group of witches in Thor: Love & Thunder to lead Thor on his journey into the underworld. Below are Headey’s detailed comments:
“Though I didn’t appear in the final movie, I was part of it. We were a coven of witches. It seems it was Taika’s creation to guide Thor in the underworld, and they were hilarious yet wild. There were rumors like ‘They got fired,’ but it was more about ‘What are they doing here?’ The idea was to explore this realm where they could embark on their own adventures. It was me, Angus Sampson, and Da’Vine Joy—a truly eccentric trio.”
Headey praised her co-star Randolph as a “delight” and “joy” to work with, expressing disappointment that their scenes were not included in the theater release.
“We played witches. Oh, she’s wonderful. She is a pleasure. She is absolutely joyful. So yes, it’s unfortunate that our scenes were cut.”
Over the years, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has featured a variety of cameos from well-known celebrities and public figures, including Elon Musk, Matt Damon, Trevor Noah, Ken Jeong, Nathan Fillion, Joan Rivers, Olivia Munn, Justin Theroux, Yvette Nicole Brown, and Garry Shandling. Stan Lee of Marvel Comics appeared in more than 20 MCU films.
Released in June 2022, Thor: Love and Thunder, directed again by Taika Waititi following his work on 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok, achieved a box office total of $760.9 million. The film received a 63% critic score and a 76% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Despite her scenes not being included in Thor: Love and Thunder, Headey’s career post-Game of Thrones continues to progress. She recently starred in a Netflix Western series called The Abandons, which was canceled, and is set to appear in a new thriller, Ballistic, playing a mother uncovering secrets about the bullet that killed her son.
Since Thor: Love and Thunder, Marvel Studios has released several more MCU films such as Black Panther: Wanda Forever, Deadpool & Wolverine, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Upcoming releases include Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31 and Avengers: Doomsday on December 18, 2026, which coincides with the release of Dune: Part Three.
Ballistic is set to hit theaters on Friday, April 17, 2026.
