The Devil Wears Prada 2 is set to make a dramatic entrance.
The original 2006 film, The Devil Wears Prada, earned over $326 million globally and secured its place in pop culture history, largely due to Meryl Streep’s Oscar-nominated portrayal of Miranda Priestly and its sharp focus on the glamorous yet demanding world of fashion. Emily Blunt also received widespread praise for her performance as Emily, marking a significant milestone in her acting career.
The latest trailer for The Devil Wears Prada 2 hints at an exciting plot twist where Anne Hathaway’s character, Andy, appears poised to challenge her former boss, Miranda Priestly, portrayed by Streep. Set 20 years after the original, the sequel promises not to hold back as Andy revisits her previous life, geared up to handle any challenges Miranda might throw her way, especially as the print journalism world continues to wane, putting pressure on Miranda’s role as editor-in-chief.
Returning nearly two decades later, Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci will revisit their iconic roles in New York City’s high-fashion scene and the stylish corridors of Runway Magazine. This sequel to the 2006 hit promises to be a significant cultural event for a new generation.
Alongside the familiar faces, the sequel will feature original director David Frankel and screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, with new talent such as Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu, Patrick Brammall, Caleb Hearon, Helen J. Shen, and B.J. Novak joining the cast.
The trailer also unveiled a surprise collaboration between Lady Gaga and Doechii with a new song titled “Runway.” Gaga is also expected to have a role in the film, following her recent work during last year’s Mayhem Ball Tour, marking her significant return since Joker: Folie à Deux and a cameo in Netflix’s Wednesday.
The 2006 movie was adapted from Lauren Weisberger’s novel, which itself was based on her experiences working under Anna Wintour at Vogue. Adrian Grenier, who played Andy’s boyfriend Nate in the original film, has confirmed he will not return for the sequel, expressing both disappointment and understanding given some negative reactions to his character.
“While I’m a fan of the film, it’s disappointing not to be part of the sequel. Understanding the backlash against Nate, I think it opens up possibilities for different stories or perhaps a spinoff,” Grenier reflected.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on May 1.
