Plot and Production of ‘A Waiter in Paris’

A Waiter in Paris is based on the memoir by Edward Chisholm, adapted for the screen by Ben Hopkins. The plot centers on a character known as L’Anglais—depressed, highly educated, and on the brink of thirty—who relocates to Paris. Determined to succeed in the city that embodies his dreams, he dives into the elite world of Parisian waiters. His experiences include exhilarating nights that extend from the glamorous brasserie into the vibrant streets of Bastille, encounters of love and lust, and the thrill of inclusion within the city’s most enviable circle. However, beneath the surface of this fine dining environment lurks a reality filled with exploitation and instability. As the workplace tensions escalate, the once-glimmering life of L’Anglais begins to show cracks.

The development of the project involved collaboration with BBC Film Curzon, Cineart, and Madman, and filming is set to take place on location in Paris.
