Angelina Jolie has been a prominent figure in the film industry for many years, showcasing her talents across various film genres. Born to actor Jon Voight, she began her career as a young actress in the 1982 film Lookin’ to Get Out. Her breakthrough came with her role in Hackers in 1995. She starred in the romantic film Playing by Heart in 1998 and then returned to drama with Girl, Interrupted in 1999. A significant role came in 2005 when she starred alongside Brad Pitt in the action comedy Mr. & Mrs. Smith.

In recent years, Jolie’s focus has shifted more towards dramatic roles. She joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe with her role in Eternals in 2021 and then paused her acting career for three years. She returned with a celebrated performance in the biographical film Maria last year, a role many thought deserved an Academy Award nomination. She also took on the roles of writer and director for the war drama Without Blood the same year. Now, Jolie is set to make a comeback to comedy with her upcoming film project.

Angelina Jolie Takes On Anxious People

The Movie Is Based On A Book

Jolie has officially signed on to star in a film adaptation of Anxious People, a comedy mystery novel by Fredrik Backman. First published in Swedish in 2019, with its English version released in 2021, the story centers on a bank robber who inadvertently takes hostages in an apartment building following a botched robbery. Anxious People was previously adapted into a six-episode Netflix miniseries.

According to Deadline, Jolie will headline the Anxious People film adaptation, directed by Marc Foster and penned by David Magee. The production will be a collaboration between Black Bear and Hope Studios, with producers including Fredrik Wikström Nicastro, Renée Wolfe, Forster, and Neda Backman.

What This Means For Anxious People

Backman Has Had A Similar Adaptation Before

Fredrik Backman, a celebrated author, previously topped the bestseller list with A Man Called Ove. The adaptation trajectory of A Man Called Ove mirrors that of Anxious People, beginning with a Swedish film and culminating in a successful Hollywood adaptation starring Tom Hanks, titled A Man Called Otto, which grossed $113.3 million worldwide. This success suggests promising prospects for Anxious People, which also features a Hollywood star in the lead and is based on one of Backman’s novels.
