Initial Report:
British boxing star Anthony Joshua was involved in a severe car accident in Nigeria that resulted in the deaths of two individuals.
The crash occurred on Monday on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, one of Nigeria’s most congested routes. According to a statement from local police to the BBC, Joshua was hospitalized with minor injuries but is reportedly in stable condition.
Details of the crash quickly spread across social media platforms, with graphic content and unverified videos of the incident and its aftermath being widely shared. Joshua, an Olympic gold medallist and former world champion, was born in Watford, England, to British Nigerian parents. He recently competed in an exhibition match against YouTuber Jake Paul, where he secured a victory by knockout in the sixth round. Following the bout, Paul was hospitalized due to a broken jaw. Organized by Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions, the event was Paul’s second live appearance on Netflix after his fight with Mike Tyson. Originally, Paul was set to face Gervonta Davis next, but that match was canceled due to Davis being entangled in a legal case involving multiple serious allegations.
Netflix reported that the fight between Paul and Joshua garnered 10.9 million views, placing it third for the week. This viewership was significantly lower compared to the 46.6 million views for Paul’s earlier fight with Tyson, which was the top-ranked event in 78 countries and made the Top 10 in all 91 countries that Netflix monitors.
