DC Studios is currently developing several fascinating projects centered around Batman, exploring different facets of his expansive lore. As a cornerstone of superhero cinema, the coming years promise major screen adaptations featuring this iconic DC character.
Swaybox Studios, a collaborator on the anticipated Dynamic Duo film, announced on their official Instagram that casting will begin on November 15, 2025. Accompanying the announcement was a video that asked, “Have you ever dreamed of performing in a DC Studios movie?” You can view the video below:
The development of Dynamic Duo was first made public on October 1, 2024, with Arthur Mintz as its director. The production is under the banner of Matt Reeves’ 6th & Idaho, and on September 9, 2025, it was disclosed that Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber had joined to rework the script.
The film will explore the origin stories of the earliest Robins, Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, marking the largest animated venture at DC Studios, in collaboration with Warner Bros Pictures Animation.
Speculation has been rife about whether Dynamic Duo will align with James Gunn’s DC Universe, or if it will stand alone as an Elseworlds story, akin to Reeves’ The Batman narrative. During a DC press event in February 2025, which ScreenRant attended, Gunn was questioned about the film’s placement within the DCU’s Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters” slate.
Gunn commented, “I’ve hesitated to answer because there’s a possibility it could integrate with the DCU. I’m quite taken with the idea of including this animated puppet movie in the DCU. However, its distinctive storyline might not seamlessly fit into our established universe.” It remains unclear which other characters will appear in the Dynamic Duo movie.
Beyond the Dynamic Duo, DC Studios recently wrapped up production of the Clayface movie on November 1, 2025, focusing on Tom Rhys Harries’ portrayal of Matt Hagen, the notorious shapeshifter, as part of the DCU. The Brave and The Bold, featuring Bruce Wayne in a standalone film within Gunn’s series, is still in the writing phase. The Batman – Part II is set for release on October 1, 2027, with Reeves and Robert Pattinson expected to start principal photography in 2026.
Dynamic Duo is expected to premiere in theaters on June 30, 2028.
