Cannes Market Expands AI Talent Summit: Launches New Creator Economy Meeting to Boost Innovation

Cannes Market Grows ‘AI For Talent Summit’ & Launches Creator Economy Meeting As It Bolsters Innovation Strand

Expanding the AI For Talent Summit at Cannes Marché du Film

The Cannes Marché du Film, scheduled for May 12-20, is set to expand its AI For Talent Summit this year. Following its successful one-day launch last year, the summit will now span two days, taking place on May 15 and 16. This invite-only event will once again gather leading figures from both the film and technology industries to delve into the latest practical uses of artificial intelligence in both creative and business spheres.

Focus Areas for This Year’s Summit

The 2023 summit will concentrate on three main themes: the integration of AI into production workflows, the ethical and responsible deployment of AI technologies, and educational initiatives demonstrated through practical applications. Details regarding the speakers and their presentations will be announced in the upcoming weeks.

Part of the Larger Cannes Next Initiative

The AI For Talent Summit is part of a broader array of forward-thinking activities organized under the Cannes Next initiative by the Marché du Film. This year, most of the Cannes Next activities will be held at the Village Innovation, located on the Pantiero side of the Village International.

The 1,000 square meter space, which offers picturesque views of the old port, will feature a substantial virtual production demonstration stage along with various booths and conference areas.

Innovations Beyond the Village Innovation

However, not all activities are confined to the Village Innovation. The Immersive Market and the Cannes Immersive Competition will take place at the Carlton Hotel. This venue will feature a newly reconfigured demo space capable of accommodating between 80 to 225 participants at once. This is a shift from the previous year’s format, which provided individual or small-group experiences. The new setup will support larger, multi-user experiences, presenting an innovative format for immersive competitions.

All selected works will be displayed on rotation within the new 450 square meter venue, which is designed to accommodate a diverse range of formats from VR experiences to extensive video mapping projects.

Additionally, the Immersive Market will utilize this space to host 150 chosen immersive producers and catalog holders. These participants will have the opportunity to present live demonstrations of their works to 90 prominent distributors and curators.

New Introductions at the Market

This year’s market will also launch its first Creator Economy Summit, reflecting the trend of digital content creators moving into the realms of long-form storytelling and film production. This summit will explore the intersection of these two worlds, including the adaptation of digital IP into cinematic projects, scouting of emerging talent, audience engagement strategies that draw communities to theaters, and innovative marketing approaches.

In another significant development, the market will benefit from a recent overhaul of its longstanding online database and networking platform, Cinando. Following its creation in 2020 as a response to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Marché du Film Online will now be fully integrated into the upgraded Cinando system.

Guillaume Esmiol, the Executive Director of the market, emphasized their commitment to innovation, stating, “We advocate innovation that serves both artistic creativity and the growth of the industry as a whole. We are dedicated to supporting and driving innovation, from technological advances that have continuously reshaped how films are conceived, produced, and distributed, to a broader mindset that reimagines business models, partnerships, and relationships.”

The Cannes Marché du Film is set to run from May 12 to 20, concurrently with the Cannes Film Festival, which extends until May 23.
