Netflix has officially slated the premiere of the third season of its German-language historical drama for the latter part of 2026. This season is set to be the series’ conclusion.
Star-Crossed and State-Bound
In this historical drama, Devrim Lingnau portrays Elisabeth “Sisi” von Wittelsbach, the Duchess in Bavaria who rose to become the Empress of Austria during the 19th century. The series, aimed at a young adult audience, explores her romantic entanglement with Emperor Franz Joseph I, played by Philip Froissant, alongside the political and personal challenges she encounters.
The official summary for Season 3 provided by Netflix details the aftermath of the harrowing Sardinian War, showing a profoundly altered Emperor Franz, haunted by guilt from the war’s heavy casualties. Elisabeth, striving to support him, fights valiantly for both her marriage and her empire’s welfare, yet faces insurmountable challenges. Courtly opposition and her worsening health force her from Vienna on an unexpected journey, during which she meets a pivotal figure that changes her life and potentially the course of European history in this thrilling six-part finale.

Returning to their roles, Lingnau and Froissant are joined by a talented cast including Melika Foroutan, Johannes Nussbaum, Josephine Thiesen, Runa Greiner, Dejan Bućin, Marlene Burow, Christophe Favre, and Alexander Finkenwirth.
