The newest addition to Disney’s series of live-action adaptations, Tangled, is set to reacquaint audiences with the characters Rapunzel and Flynn Rider, also known as Eugene Fitzherbert. Michael Gracey will be directing the movie. Disney has recently revealed that Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim will be portraying the iconic lead roles.
Since its debut in 2010, the character Flynn has captured the hearts of fans with his witty banter and unexpected depth of character. The buzz around who would step into Flynn’s shoes has been a hot topic. With the casting of Manheim, fans’ curiosity has turned into a mix of anticipation and for some, skepticism.
A notable fan reaction came from artist and content creator @braeden.obrien on Instagram, who posted a video sketching Manheim as Flynn alongside the memorable song “I See The Light.” The artwork underscored Manheim’s resemblance to the animated version of Flynn, sparking lively fan discussions. One comment noted, “The movie hasn’t even started filming and people are already fangirling.“
Soon after the announcement of his casting, Manheim expressed his gratitude on Instagram, saying, “Too grateful to put into words,” and promising, “I will do him justice, I promise.“
Zachary Levi, the original voice of Flynn, also commented on Manheim’s post, wishing him, “Congrats, Milo! Now go do Eugene Fitzherbert proud.” Disney’s official Instagram account added, “Here comes the smolder!“
Manheim is well-known to Disney audiences from his role in the Disney Channel’s Zombies franchise with Meg Donnelly. Meanwhile, Croft is best recognized for her portrayal of Rachel Roth/Raven in Titans. She frequently shares her singing performances online. The role of the antagonist Mother Gothel remains uncast, but Kathryn Hahn, famous for Agatha All Along, is reportedly being considered.
No specific release date has been set for the Tangled live-action remake, although it is expected to start production in mid-2026 in the UK.
