Front Row Filmed Entertainment Secures Rights for “The Tale of Daye’s Family”
Front Row Filmed Entertainment has successfully secured the rights for all territories across the Middle East and North Africa, with the exception of theatrical rights in Egypt, for the drama film The Tale of Daye’s Family. This acquisition was completed through a negotiation with Saudi Arabia’s Big Time Fund.
Global Debut and Film Festival Appearances
The movie made its global debut at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Saudi Arabia in December 2024, where it served as the opening film. Following this, it was also featured at the Berlinale. The film was directed by Karim El-Shenawy and written by Haitham Dabbour.
The storyline centers on Daye, a young 11-year-old albino Nubian boy from southern Egypt, who aspires to become a singer like his hero, Mohamed Mounir. With his mother, sister, and a dedicated music teacher by his side, Daye journeys to Cairo. Throughout his journey, he faces challenges such as bullying and prejudice, but also discovers the power of courage in making oneself seen and heard.
Theatrical Release and Upcoming SVOD Premiere
The film was officially released in theaters across the Gulf region on September 18 and is expected to premiere on a Subscription Video On Demand (SVOD) service shortly.
Gianluca Chakra, the CEO of Front Row Filmed Entertainment, emphasized the significance of acquiring the MENA rights to The Tale of Daye’s Family. He stated, “This acquisition is not just about distribution; it’s about elevating a narrative that needs to be shared and heard widely.”
Chakra also highlighted the film’s themes, noting, “Daye’s story addresses issues like bullying and promotes values of inclusion, which we are eager to support and propagate through every available screen across the region.”
Front Row also mentioned that their collaboration with Big Time Fund is a reflection of a mutual dedication to presenting impactful Arab and international films to audiences across the MENA region.
Big Time Fund is part of a larger initiative supported by Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, focusing on investments in entertainment projects that enhance the nation’s creative economy and promote Arab storytelling.
