Exclusive Insight into Geoff Barrow’s Film Debut
Geoff Barrow, best known as a founding member of Portishead, has recently completed his debut film, titled Game. This marks his first venture into film production and scriptwriting, undertaken through Invada Films, a new extension of his Bristol-based record company, Invada Records. We are excited to present an exclusive first look at an image from his film.
Introducing Game: A Thriller Set in the Rave Era
The movie Game, directed by John Minton in his first feature film role, plunges into the vibrant 1990s rave scene. It follows two main characters, a thief and a poacher played by Marc Bessant and Jason Williamson, who navigate this chaotic world relying on their sharp minds to prevail. The concept for the film was born from a discussion between Barrow and Bessant, who later involved Minton and Rob Williams to flesh out the storyline. Williams is credited with writing the final script.
Filming took place in various locations around Bristol, UK, and the project has now moved into the post-production phase.
Barrow shared his excitement about the collaborative nature of the film: “John Minton and I have been collaborating on music projects for over two decades and have always envisioned creating a feature film together. I’ve had a long-standing professional relationship with Marc as well. I admire Jason Williamson’s multifaceted talents and have been developing film concepts with Rob Williams for some time now.”
He added, “Working on Game has been a thoroughly enjoyable experience, largely because it involved working with friends and acquaintances from around Bristol. It’s thrilling to explore this new career avenue, and I am eager to continue with two more films currently in development.”
