Happy Gilmore 2 Director Reveals: Inside Scoop on Working With Adam Sandler’s Daughters

Sadie and Sunny Sandler

The person at the helm of the much-anticipated sequel of Adam Sandler’s movie, Happy Gilmore 2, shared insights about directing Sandler’s daughters, Sadie and Sunny. Sadie, aged 18, and Sunny, aged 16, both play significant roles in this newest comedy installment, with one of them portraying the character of Happy Gilmore’s daughter.

Both girls also appeared in another of Sandler’s projects, the 2023 Netflix comedy You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah. Kyle Newacheck, who gained fame as a director, actor, and co-creator of the Comedy Central hit Workaholics, recently discussed with People magazine his experience directing the Sandler family in the Happy Gilmore sequel.

“It was awesome. It’s amazing. It is so cool to see them all be creative and to work and gel to tell the story.

“It just makes me excited to see what they’re going to come up with in the next 10 years, if they’re going to follow their father’s footsteps and be committed to this family business. They’re all very talented and it’s awesome watching them work.”

Upcoming Film Projects for Sandler’s Daughters

Newacheck’s praise for Sadie and Sunny Sandler suggests that these young actors are on the brink of their own promising careers in acting. Together, they have appeared in numerous Sandler films over the years, such as Grown Ups, Just Go With It, Murder Mystery, and Leo.

However, Happy Gilmore 2 marks a significant stepping stone into new cinematic ventures for both Sadie and Sunny Sandler. Sadie has secured a role in an upcoming comedy titled Roommates, starring Natasha Lyonne and Nick Kroll, which is currently under production. On the other hand, Sunny has been cast in another comedy, Don’t Say Good Luck, featuring Melanie Lynskey, Max Greenfield, and Steve Buscemi.

Actress Julie Bowen, who reprises her role as Virginia Venit in both Happy Gilmore films, expressed nothing but admiration for the Sandler sisters, stating, “They are great. They are really, really great. They’re wonderful young women to begin with,” (via People).

Bowen also mentioned how wonderful it was to observe Sandler on set with his daughters. “Sadie’s studying acting [at NYU], so she was in school while we were doing it, but she would come to the set. Sunny was there all the time. It is so sweet to see [Adam] interact with them.”

Reflections on Sandler Including His Daughters in Recent Films

Sadie & Sunny Individually Making Their Mark in Acting

The ongoing decision by Sandler to feature his daughters in many of his films is endearing and very typical of the comedic icon. As Newacheck noted, it’s intriguing to contemplate whether Sadie and Sunny will continue to follow in their father’s prestigious footsteps. Currently, everything indicates that they will.

It was fitting that Sunny played Sandler’s character’s daughter in Happy Gilmore 2, a role she has assumed before in other films like Spaceman and Bat Mitzvah. Although Sadie also portrayed one of Sandler’s on-screen daughters in Bat Mitzvah, her studies at NYU seem to have inspired her to seek roles beyond just family-themed movies.

Following their impactful performances in Happy Gilmore 2, both Sadie and Sunny Sandler are expected to continue to grow in their acting careers, featuring in their father’s upcoming films as well as other significant projects.
