Lee Jung-jae Moves from Intense Drama to Romantic Comedy
Lee Jung-jae, renowned for his role in the intense series Squid Game, is set to explore a lighter genre. The actor transitions from the grim scenes of Squid Game to starring in a new romantic comedy series.
Lee Jung-jae will share the screen with Lim Ji-yeon, known from The Glory, in the upcoming series Nice to Not Meet You, a romantic comedy that takes place within the entertainment industry. This new series is slated for release on Prime Video.
In this upcoming series, Lee portrays an actor who has been pigeonholed into similar roles and seeks a change by pursuing roles in melodrama. He crosses paths with Lim Ji-yeon’s character, a seasoned political journalist who finds herself unexpectedly reassigned to cover entertainment news. According to the series synopsis, their initial friction evolves into a captivating narrative filled with wit, charm, and an unforeseen romantic spark.
Lee’s character, named Lim Hyeon-jun, is the popular lead in a long-running detective show that is preparing for its fifth season. Despite the series’ popularity, he aspires to diversify his acting portfolio by taking on roles that require more emotional depth. Meanwhile, Lim’s character, accustomed to the political beat, is reluctantly thrust into the entertainment journalism world, where she must deal with covering an actor she’d rather avoid.
The series is directed by Kim Ga-ram, known for her work on Good Partner and Nevertheless, and written by Jung Yeo-rang, who penned Doctor Cha. It is a collaborative production between Studio Dragon and Studio&NEW. While Prime Video holds the international streaming rights, the show will be broadcast in South Korea on the local network TVN.
Nice to Not Meet You joins other Korean titles on Prime Video, such as Head Over Heels, Good Boy, and Divorce Insurance.
Lee Jung-jae’s notable journey in Squid Game concluded with the release of its third and final season, which premiered on June 27 this year, marking the end of the high-stakes survival drama.
