New Mystery Thriller Starring Harry Potter Alum Sets VOD Release

Dead of Winter, a gripping thriller featuring Harry Potter star Emma Thompson, is far removed from the magical world of Hogsmeade. This independent film has garnered a respectable score on Rotten Tomatoes and is set for a cozy viewing experience at home with its upcoming release on video-on-demand.

As of Tuesday, October 21, audiences will have the opportunity to purchase or rent Dead of Winter on various VOD services, such as Apple TV, Fandango at Home, and Prime Video. The film is currently open for pre-orders on these platforms. Its theatrical run began on September 26 and was limited to just over 600 screenings nationwide.

Written by Nicholas Jacobson-Larson & Dalton Lee and directed by Brian Kirk, Dead of Winter unfolds during a severe snowstorm. Emma Thompson plays a bereaved loner who finds herself stranded on secluded roads in Minnesota. Her encounter with a secluded cabin leads to a shocking discovery: a young woman (Laurel Marsden) held captive by a murderous couple (Judy Greer, Marc Menchaca). Suddenly, Thompson’s character becomes the young woman’s sole chance for survival.
