Exclusive News: “Lollipop Chainsaw” Set for Film Adaptation
The beloved Japanese video game Lollipop Chainsaw is making its way to the cinema. Sources have disclosed that plans are underway for a live-action movie adaptation of the game as its creators aim to forge “a new model for creating internationally recognized entertainment franchises originating from Asia.” The announcement comes just as the latest installment of the Lollipop Chainsaw video game is set to release, accompanied by an animated series.
Plot and Setting
The upcoming Lollipop Chainsaw movie is set to be an R-rated action comedy taking place before the original game’s storyline. It centers around Juliet Starling, a cheerleader at San Romero High School, who hails from a family famed for their zombie-hunting prowess. When her school becomes ground zero for a zombie apocalypse, Juliet must navigate through hordes of zombies to rescue her friends, safeguard her family, and maintain her relationship with her boyfriend Nick, which may require some peculiar solutions.

Project Development
The film’s development was announced at the Tokyo Game Show. It is licensed by Dragami Games and is being developed by a global team of creatives and producers. This team includes Joe Teng of Nada Holdings, Robert Franke, formerly of ZDF Studios, and his company Orange Chariot, Takafumi Yuki of Throne Inc, Kirk Shaw and Chris Philip from Ambitious Entertainment, and Patricio Rabuffetti of Non Stop TV.
Since its release in 2012, Lollipop Chainsaw has gained a substantial cult following, with over 1.5 million copies sold globally. The game also saw a remastered release titled Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP two years ago.
Shohei Sato, President of Dragami Games, expressed his enthusiasm about the adaptation: “We are truly excited to see our vision take another important step with the franchise’s first live-action feature film. We are especially pleased to be working with such an experienced and passionate international team—one that understands what makes Lollipop Chainsaw special while embracing the opportunity to create something new.”
Robert Franke also shared his excitement about the project, stating, “We are making a film that feels unmistakably true to the spirit of Lollipop Chainsaw while standing completely on its own. Longtime fans will recognize the attitude, irreverence, and glorious excess they love, while newcomers can simply enjoy an unforgettable action-horror comedy. Our ambition is to create a film that entertains audiences everywhere, whether they’ve played the game or not.”
