About two weeks ago, Sanderson completed the initial draft of the Mistborn screenplay. Despite this progress, the renowned fantasy writer has tempered expectations by noting that the project is still in its infancy. He emphasized that the screenplay, although finished in its first form, requires additional revisions and is far from entering production stages.
While the development of the adaptation appears to be progressing steadily, especially considering it was only announced in February, the pace might slow down. Following the completion of the initial draft, Sanderson is now reviewing feedback and anticipates at least three more drafts before finalization. During a recent update on his YouTube channel, he mentioned that the adaptation process for Mistborn on Apple TV could extend over a considerable period.
As of now, details regarding the plot of the Mistborn film remain closely guarded. Nevertheless, fans remain optimistic about a faithful adaptation under Sanderson’s involvement. The Mistborn trilogy centers around Vin, a young thief who allies with Kelsier, leader of the skaa uprising. Together, they aim to overthrow the Lord Ruler, an immortal tyrant who has dominated their world for a millennium.
In addition to Mistborn, Sanderson is collaborating with Apple TV on another major project, adapting his The Stormlight Archive series into a television series slated for ten episodes. The series currently includes five main books: The Way of Kings (2010), Words of Radiance (2014), Oathbringer (2017), Rhythm of War (2020), and Wind and Truth (2024), with more expected.
While there is no confirmed release date for the Mistborn movie on Apple TV, it is speculated that the earliest possible release could be in 2029.
