Netflix has unveiled the teaser trailer for its new Spanish-language movie La Bola Negra.
This historical drama boasts a star-studded ensemble including Guitarricadelafuente, Carlos González, Miguel Bernardeau, Milo Quifes, Lola Dueñas, Alberto Cortés, Penélope Cruz, Julio Torres, and Glenn Close. The film narrates the interconnected lives of three homosexual men during the years 1932, 1937, and 2017.
Rather than debuting directly on Netflix, La Bola Negra will first be shown in theaters on October 16, before it becomes available on the streaming service on December 2.

The trailer of La Bola Negra starts with a poignant voiceover: “I’m not going to intrude on your heart, but outside this door, you must be what you’re supposed to be: a man!” It depicts one character struggling to hide his true self, intercut with scenes of soldiers socializing, driving, and dancing during the Spanish Civil War.
The film showcases the strong bond among the characters, which becomes essential as they face challenging times. This is highlighted in the trailer with scenes of bombings and fiery battlegrounds. Despite the perils, a tender love story unfolds in secrecy.
The movie is directed by Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, who also collaborated with Alberto Conejero on the screenplay. The plot is inspired by an unfinished play by the renowned Spanish poet Federico García Lorca, who was tragically killed in 1936.
La Bola Negra has garnered significant acclaim, securing two major awards this year. At its Cannes debut in May, Ambrossi and Calvo were awarded Best Director (sharing the category with Fatherland‘s Paweł Pawlikowski), and the film was also a contender for the prestigious Palme d’Or, which was ultimately awarded to Fjord.
Subsequently, in June, the film took home the prize for Best International Feature at the Sydney Film Festival.
Critiques have lauded La Bola Negra since its premiere at Cannes, where it currently enjoys an 88% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Reviewers have described the film as both grand and intimate, bold, passionate, and a remarkable achievement in cinema. The performances by the cast, notably the appearances by Cruz and Close, have been particularly praised.
La Bola Negra is one of three films featuring Cruz in 2026, following The Invite and The Bride!. Meanwhile, Close is set to appear next in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, which releases on November 20.
La Bola Negra will hit theaters on Friday, October 16, and will be available on Netflix from Wednesday, December 2, 2026.
