EXCLUSIVE: Crime 101 producer Raw, together with New Yorker Studios, is collaborating on a limited series that delves into newly discovered evidence regarding the infamous White House Farm murders.
This upcoming series, currently without a title, is being led by showrunner Emilia di Girolamo (Deceit, Three Pines). It focuses on groundbreaking evidence brought to light by New Yorker journalist Heidi Blake in 2024, which might challenge the conviction of Jeremy Bamber after four decades. The cast has not been finalized yet, but discussions are ongoing with various broadcasters, as informed by Raw.
Back in 1985, Jeremy Bamber was accused of murdering his adoptive parents Nevill and June Bamber, his sister Sheila Cafell, and her twin sons, Daniel and Nicholas, aged six, in their residence at the now notorious White House Farm. Arrested and jailed a year later, Bamber has consistently claimed his innocence.
These murders were previously examined in a 2020 ITV series where Bamber was portrayed by Freddie Fox, with Stephen Graham as the lead investigator. However, new revelations have surfaced since. In a 2024 investigative piece by the New Yorker, Heidi Blake unveiled new evidence. She expanded on her findings in the following year with the audio series Blood Relatives from the award-winning podcast In the Dark, which utilized hundreds of thousands of evidence files previously unknown to the jury during Bamber’s trial.
Should he be cleared, Bamber’s case would represent the longest instance of wrongful imprisonment due to a miscarriage of justice in the history of English law.
Di Girolamo is also working on adapting Alice Feeney’s thriller My Husband’s Wife for Carnival, and is set to adapt the popular RTÉ podcast Finding Samantha, which tells the story of international fraudster Samantha Azzopardi, for Keeper Pictures.
Raw, known for acclaimed documentaries such as The Tinder Swindler and Don’t F**k with Cats, has been venturing more into scripted content recently, including the Chris Hemsworth-led Crime 101.
“This series will shed new light on the case,” stated di Girolamo. “Through Heidi Blake’s exceptional investigative work, we’ve unearthed new evidence that casts serious doubts on the validity of Jeremy’s conviction. Our narrative will break away from the repetitive cycle seen in numerous true-crime adaptations. We aim to highlight issues such as police errors, judicial oversight, courageous reporting, a relentless advocacy team, and a man’s 41-year struggle to prove his innocence.”
The series will be executive produced by Sam Tipper-Hale, Dimitri Doganis, Helen Estabrook, Sarah Patzer, Blake, and di Girolamo.
