Shocking Teen Drama ‘Teenage Sex & Death At Camp Miasma’ to Close SXSW London: Final Lineup Revealed!

‘Teenage Sex & Death At Camp Miasma’ To Close SXSW London As Screen Program Unveils Final Additions

The film Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, featuring performances by Hannah Einbinder and Gillian Anderson, is set to be the concluding highlight of the Screen Festival at SXSW London this June.

Arriving in London right after its global debut at the Cannes Film Festival, where it was the opener for the Un Certain Regard section, the film will be released in August by Mubi across the U.S., UK, and Ireland.

Produced by Plan B and Mubi, the movie casts Einbinder as a director who is recreating a beloved slasher movie. She becomes fixated on casting the original film’s leading actress, portrayed by Anderson. This marks Schoenbrun’s third directorial venture following their earlier horror films We’re All Going to the World’s Fair and I Saw the TV Glow.

Anna Bogutskaya, Head of the Screen Festival, praised Schoenbrun, stating, “Jane Schoenbrun continues to develop a truly intriguing cinematic portfolio.”

She added, “Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma extends Schoenbrun’s exploration of horror, fandom, memory, and identity even further. The dynamic between Hannah Einbinder and Gillian Anderson in each scene was so intense, it almost set the screen ablaze.”

Among the final updates to the Screen Program, it will also premiere the new series Playoffs, directed by Brazilian filmmaker Bruno Safadi and produced by Globo, with star Cauã Reymond appearing at the red carpet event at the Barbican Centre in London.

Additionally, the program will introduce Thanasis Neofotistos’s debut feature The Boy With Light-Blue Eyes, a genre-melding folktale, alongside Sam McConnell’s Test, which depicts an amateur bodybuilder in rural Ohio grappling with family issues, addiction, and his burgeoning sexuality. Chris Atkins’ documentary James – Getting Away With It will also be shown, detailing the ascent of the band James from Manchester’s vibrant music scene in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

The festival will feature a special screening event in partnership with Silents Synced, showcasing a new scored version of the 1928 silent film classic The Cure Meets The Man Who Laughs with music by The Cure.

Additionally, there will be UK premieres of Olivia Wilde’s The Invite, featuring Seth Rogen, Edward Norton, and Penélope Cruz, and Sofia Coppola’s documentary Marc by Sofia, which delves into the life and work of her long-standing friend and collaborator Marc Jacobs.

SXSW London is scheduled from June 1 to 6.
