EXCLUSIVE: Directed by Simon West (Con Air), the World War II themed espionage thriller Fortitude kicked off its main shooting phase on September 8th in London, boasting a stellar cast.
This impressive cast includes Matthew Goode (The Imitation Game), Ed Skrein (Jurassic World: Rebirth), Jordi Mollà (Mobland), Alice Eve (Star Trek Into Darkness), Michael Sheen (Frost/Nixon), Art Malik (True Lies), Lukas Haas (Inception), Adrian Topol (Franz + Polina), Emilio Sakraya (Sixty Minutes), Paul Anderson (Peaky Blinders), Ben Kingsley (Gandhi), and Nicolas Cage (Con Air).
The film draws from the real-life tales of British Intelligence during World War II, who orchestrated a series of intricate deception schemes to mislead the Nazi regime and shift the war’s momentum. Historical advisor Joshua Levine (Dunkirk) helped shape the narrative, which highlights the ingenious tactics of British officers Dudley Clarke and Thomas Argyll “Tar” Robertson. Their strategies included the creation of phantom armies, bogus military hardware, and a cadre of double agents. One notable figure in their schemes was Dusko Popov, a Yugoslavian playboy and double agent who reportedly inspired the creation of Ian Fleming’s iconic James Bond.
The screenplay for Fortitude is penned by Simon Afram (Lear Rex), who also serves as a producer alongside Georgette Turner (location manager, Wonder Woman), Reza Roohi (ATL Hustle), and Edward Kahl (Queen of Manhattan). The executive production team is made up of Bianca Goodloe and David Scaramanga, with Rich Mento handling casting. Legal services are provided by Goodloe Law, and the production is officially listed under Op-Fortitude Ltd.
Producer Simon Afram expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating, “We are thrilled to unite such a dynamic group of actors. Their collective talent and synergy, along with West’s visionary direction, promise to transform this historical narrative into an extraordinary and memorable film.”
