Stephen King is building anticipation for a horror film that will start streaming next month.
As the creator of Carrie, ‘Salem’s Lot, The Shining, IT, Pet Sematary, Cujo, and many other horror classics, King is a recognized authority on the genre. His stories have been adapted into some of the most influential films in horror, including Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining, which is often cited as one of the greatest horror films ever made, and 2017’s IT, the highest-grossing horror movie to date. Furthermore, Carrie has recently been transformed into a TV series by Mike Flanagan.
Recently, King expressed his enthusiasm for the forthcoming horror movie The Cycle, set to premiere on Shudder next month. He seldom endorses films publicly if they aren’t based on his works, but he made an exception for this “special” film, urging his followers to mark their calendars. Below are his words:
“There’s a movie coming on Shudder in October called THE CYCLE. I don’t usually promote horror movies (unless they are mine, haha), but this one is special. Make sure to note it on your calendar.”
In The Cycle, Deborah Ann Woll stars as a woman brought to a police station after her father’s body is found at a crime scene 36 years after he disappeared. The Cycle is scheduled to debut on Shudder on October 23, just in time for Halloween, making it an ideal choice for those looking for a new horror flick during the spooky season. King often praises films and shows on his social media after viewing them, having previously spoken highly of From, Stranger Things, and others. However, it is rare for him to commend a project he is not involved in before its release. His early shout-out for The Cycle is thus significant, suggesting it will live up to the expectations of horror enthusiasts.
Alongside Woll, the film features Jeffrey Donovan, Gretchen Corbett, Will Hochman, Dana Millican, Jack Doolan, and Trevor Newlin. It was directed by Jordan Downey, who co-wrote the screenplay with Kevin Stewart. Both previously collaborated on V/H/S/Beyond, which received a “Certified Fresh” 90% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes.
With Stephen King’s endorsement, The Cycle has gained heightened visibility and anticipation.
