Prime Focus Group Announces Major Entertainment Complex in Mumbai
Prime Focus Group has entered into an agreement with the Maharashtra government to establish a $400 million entertainment complex in Mumbai, a city famously known as the center of the Bollywood film industry.
The planned facility is described as a “global entertainment destination” and will feature a large production studio, cutting-edge digital infrastructure, venues for live performances, theme parks, interactive experience centers, as well as retail outlets, dining options, hotels, and residential areas. This ambitious project aims to cater to both creators of content and enthusiasts of film and television.
According to Prime Focus, this significant investment of 3000 crores (approximately $400 million) is expected to generate thousands of specialized job opportunities in the area. The announcement was made by Namit Malhotra, the founder and CEO of Prime Focus, alongside Maharashtra’s Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis.
Prime Focus, a company specializing in VFX, post-production, and media services, is involved in both the Bollywood and Hollywood industries. It operates one of Asia’s largest production facilities in Mumbai, which includes eight soundstages designed by Hollywood experts. Additionally, its DNEG Mumbai studio, also situated in Mumbai, is part of the group’s extensive infrastructure.
Malhotra shared his vision for the project, emphasizing collaboration among Prime Focus Group companies. He highlighted the integration of DNEG’s award-winning creativity, Brahma’s AI technology, and Prime Focus Studios’ financing and production expertise to create a state-of-the-art content creation center. “This initiative is intended to celebrate over a century of cinematic history by creating an innovative hub for content creation right in the heart of Mumbai,” Malhotra stated.
He further added, “By harnessing India’s rich tradition of skilled artisanship and innovative spirit, we aim to establish not just a premier center for content creation but also a showcase of Indian culture, history, and capabilities through unparalleled entertainment and lifestyle experiences.”
Chief Minister Fadnavis expressed his support for the project, noting its potential to position Maharashtra and Mumbai at the forefront of India’s growth and as a prime center for filmmaking and entertainment. “I am eager to collaborate with Prime Focus and DNEG on this pioneering entertainment hub, which will further secure Mumbai’s reputation as a leading city for production and leisure tourism,” he remarked.
