Netflix has just announced the production kickoff for the reunion movie of The Inbetweeners, featuring the original cast members Simon Bird, James Buckley, Blake Harrison, and Joe Thomas, who are returning to their beloved roles from the acclaimed series and its subsequent films.
This confirmation puts an end to the widespread rumors about the reboot of the immensely successful comedy series that chronicles the life of Will McKenzie and his friends Simon Cooper, Neil Sutherland, and Jay Cartwright. The original series aired on Channel 4 from 2008 to 2010, capturing the awkward stages of adolescence.
In a teaser released by the streaming giant, the audience got a glimpse of the characters, now in their young adulthood, squeezing into the iconic, dilapidated yellow 1996 Fiat Cinquecento Hawaii edition—a memorable vehicle from the series that Simon received from his parents after passing his driving test in the first season.
Details about the plot of the characters’ latest escapades were not disclosed, but they are expected to continue exploring themes of school life, friendships, and their often comical romantic failures at the fictional Rudge Park Comprehensive.

Damon Beesley and Iain Morris, the original creators of The Inbetweeners, are back to pen and helm the new film. The production will be managed by Claire Jones with collaborative efforts from Banijay’s Patrick Holland and Fudge Park Production’s Mark Lesbirel.
“Reuniting with these characters has been incredibly exciting, and we are committed to making this project a success. We look forward to bringing more laughter and awkwardness to our audience,” shared Beesley and Morris, who will also serve as executive producers along with Caroline Levy, Caroline Leddy, Phil Gilbert, Suzanne Knight, Tom Jordan, and Farhana Bhula for Film4.
The show originally set viewership records for Channel 4 across its three seasons and later led to two hit movies backed by Film4, released in 2011 and 2014. The first film debuted at the top of the box office charts, marking a record-breaking opening weekend for a UK comedy at that time, with the sequel also achieving significant box office success.
Anticipation for the return of The Inbetweeners began building last October when Banijay UK’s CEO Holland hinted at new adventures, following a longstanding agreement with Banijay UK and Fudge Park Productions established over a decade ago.
