The film Verity is another adaptation of a Colleen Hoover novel, following others like It Ends With Us, Regretting You, and Reminders of Him. Released in 2018, this best-selling book is a psychological thriller that revolves around the character Verity Crawford, a renowned author who is unable to finish her famous series of books. Her husband, Jeremy Crawford, enlists the help of writer Lowen Ashleigh (played by Johnson) to conclude the series, but as Lowen delves deeper, she uncovers disturbing secrets.
Amazon MGM Studios has unveiled the first official trailer for Verity. The trailer opens with Lowen (Johnson) navigating through a house at night. She observes Verity (Hathaway) who appears to be asleep and Jeremy (Josh Hartnett) engrossed in watching TV. As Lowen gets closer to Jeremy, they share an intimate moment, but the atmosphere quickly becomes sinister when Jeremy morphs into Verity, who then aggressively bites Lowen’s lip, drawing blood. Distinct from Hoover’s earlier adaptations like It Ends With Us, Regretting You, and Reminders of Him, which are primarily romance-driven, Verity shifts towards a darker, more haunting theme. This shift is highlighted in the trailer, especially after Lowen discovers a manuscript written by Verity. The preview clearly sets a different tone, showcasing the thriller elements, though it’s based on equally successful source material.
