BAFTA TV Awards: ‘Baby Reindeer’, ‘Slow Horses’ & ‘Rivals’ Secure Multiple Noms

Three major British streaming successes have garnered multiple nominations at the 2025 BAFTA TV Awards, highlighting an exceptional year for ITV’s Mr Bates vs the Post Office.

Baby Reindeer tops the list with eight nominations at both the BAFTA TV and Craft Awards, including for Limited Drama, Leading Actor for its creator Richard Gadd, and two for Supporting Actress for Jessica Gunning and Nava Mau. Notably, Mau marks a milestone as the first openly transgender individual to be nominated at the BAFTA TV Awards, shortly after Karla Sofía Gascón was nominated in the film category.

Apple TV+’s Slow Horses and Disney+’s Rivals each received six nominations. Notable mentions include Gary Oldman from Slow Horses and David Tennant from Rivals, both contending in the densely packed Leading Actor category alongside Lennie James (Mr Loverman), Martin Freeman (The Responder), and Toby Jones (Mr Bates vs the Post Office). Surprisingly, Danny Dyer, anticipated to be nominated for Rivals, secured a nod for his role in the Sky comedy Mr Bigstuff in Male Performance in a Comedy.

Following an impactful year that drew significant media attention, Mr Bates has secured six nominations, including for Limited Drama, contending with One Day, Baby Reindeer, and Lost Boys and Fairies.

Netflix’s Supacell competes for the Drama Series award against BBC’s Blue Lights, Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light, and Sherwood.

In the International Drama category, Shōgun is acknowledged alongside Say Nothing and True Detective, a category known for its unpredictability.

The BBC leads with 75 nominations, significantly ahead of Channel 4 with 27 and Netflix with 26. Streamers also showed strong performances, with Disney+ achieving a record 15 nominations and Apple TV+ securing 13. Prime Video received only one nomination.

In the realm of unscripted content, The Traitors appears promising as host Claudia Winkleman aims for her second Entertainment Performance award, following her previous win two years earlier.

The BBC’s documentary Life and Death in Gaza has earned four nominations, notable especially after the Royal Television Society’s initial decision to not honor journalists in Gaza, which was quickly overturned amid backlash.

BAFTA CEO Jane Milichip remarked: “The power of television to drive national conversation, to tap into the stories of public interest, and to inspire societal change, is unparalleled. The ability to accomplish this across various genres—drama, fiction, documentary, and comedy—underscores the breadth of this year’s nominations. UK television is truly excelling, and it is an honor for BAFTA to highlight the work of our exceptionally talented nominees.”

The BAFTA ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, May 11, at London’s Royal Festival Hall. Last year’s notable winners included Top Boy, The Sixth Commandment, and Slow Horses.
