Andy Serkis might have accidentally revealed a fresh addition to the cast of Avengers: Doomsday.
During a chat with CinemaHub, alongside Iman Vellani, Serkis discussed several of their forthcoming films, including Avengers: Doomsday. Serkis expressed his anticipation, remarking, “I’m excited to see you in Doomsday.” Vellani quickly intervened, cautioning, “No, you can’t say that.”
Watch the interview with Serkis and Vellani here:
The interaction began amicably as Vellani shared her enthusiasm about Serkis directing and returning as Gollum in The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, set for release on December 17, 2027.
The mood shifted when Serkis hinted at Vellani’s role in Avengers: Doomsday. The atmosphere turned slightly tense as they both tried to navigate the conversation away from what seemed like a significant spoiler.
“If there should ever be the chance to see you in a film like Doomsday,” Serkis attempted to correct, with Vellani adding, “If there is a chance, like Doomsday, but Gollum’s happening for sure.” They ended the clip with nervous laughter.
Serkis is renowned for his portrayal of Gollum in the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit series, a saga that kicked off in 2001 with The Fellowship of the Ring. This much-loved series has earned $5.9 billion at the global box office and is celebrating its 25th anniversary this December.
In the years following, several Middle-earth themed projects have emerged, yet the original universe created by director Peter Jackson continues to expand, now with Serkis at the helm for The Hunt for Gollum.
Fourteen years after his initial appearance as Gollum, Serkis entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Ulysses Klaue in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Black Panther, and What If…?
Vellani is also a familiar face in the MCU, having debuted in the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel as Kamala Khan, a character who looks up to Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel. Larson appeared briefly in the last episode, hinting at a future collaboration in the film The Marvels.
Vellani’s latest Marvel endeavor involved voicing Kamala in the animated series Marvel Zombies.
Disney and Marvel Studios have not yet confirmed Vellani’s involvement in Avengers: Doomsday, which will feature an ensemble of MCU characters confronting the antagonist Doctor Doom, portrayed by the veteran Robert Downey Jr.
The Russo Brothers, directors of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame, are returning, with Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely handling the screenplay.
Avengers: Doomsday is poised to be the grandest MCU ensemble since Endgame. Since the release of that $2.79 billion blockbuster, several new characters have been introduced, including Shang-Chi, Ms. Marvel, Deadpool, and the Fantastic Four.
It’s possible that Doomsday will include several unannounced characters, but Serkis’ slip seems to hint at Ms. Marvel’s involvement, revealing that Tom Holland and Mark Ruffalo aren’t the only ones prone to spoilers.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for theatrical release on Friday, December 18, 2026.
