Janet Brown Steps Down from BBC Studios, Role Moves to UK
Janet Brown, the head of sales at BBC Studios, is departing from her position as her role is shifted back to the United Kingdom.
Brown’s departure marks the second high-level exit from BBC Studios’ U.S. team in recent months, following Rebecca Glashow, the former CEO of BBC Global Media & Streaming.
The decision to transfer Brown’s position to the company’s London headquarters was made to facilitate closer collaboration with Zai Bennett, the Director of Content, and his team. Brown chose not to move to London and has opted to explore new career opportunities instead. The role, now based in the UK, will be responsible for managing worldwide content sales, including those within the UK.
Zai Bennett commented on the strategic shift, stating, “This change is forward-looking and aims to forge a cohesive content studio that excels in both production and global sales. Janet has significantly impacted our business, demonstrating remarkable leadership and dedication. We are immensely thankful for her efforts and wish her the best in her future endeavors.”
Following Glashow’s departure to join Tribeca Enterprises, the responsibilities for distribution and content sales were consolidated under Bennett’s leadership. Additionally, Marcus Arthur, CEO of UKTV, expanded his role to include oversight of global channels. Bennett has initiated several changes since assuming control of the production segment. Notable moves include appointing Jamie Hall as the Managing Director for scripted content and enhancing the unscripted segment with Karl Warner and Suzy Lamb.
Brown initially joined BBC Studios in 2022, coming from Gunpowder and Sky, where she served as President of Content Distribution for both North America and Latin America. In October 2024, she was promoted to a global position.
