Berlin Film Festival Honors Michelle Yeoh: Star to Receive Prestigious Golden Bear Award

Berlin Film Festival To Fete Michelle Yeoh With Honorary Golden Bear

The Berlin Film Festival will honor Michelle Yeoh with the prestigious Honorary Golden Bear for her contributions to the film industry. This accolade is scheduled to be awarded during the festival’s Opening Ceremony at the Berlinale Palast on February 12, 2026.

“Michelle Yeoh is an extraordinary artist and actress whose talents transcend geographical, linguistic, and cinematic barriers,” said Tricia Tuttle, the Director of the Berlinale Festival. “Her powerful performances, audacious artistic decisions, and distinctive flair have profoundly influenced filmmakers and audiences both at the Berlinale and worldwide.”

Yeoh expressed her affection for the festival, stating, “Berlin has always been a very special city to me. It was among the first festivals that really appreciated my films with great warmth and support. To come back after so many years and be recognized for my cinematic journey is incredibly touching.”

Other distinguished figures who have previously received the Honorary Golden Bear include Helen Mirren, Martin Scorsese, Meryl Streep, Steven Spielberg, and Tilda Swinton.

Yeoh’s career took off in the late 1980s and early 1990s with early roles in films like Yes, Madam, Royal Warriors, Police Story III, and Wing Chun. She achieved international fame in 1997 with her portrayal of the Chinese secret agent Wai Lin in the James Bond movie Tomorrow Never Dies. Yeoh is also widely recognized for her performances in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Everything Everywhere All at Once.

Yeoh was a member of the Berlin Jury in 1999 and is currently promoting her latest project, Wicked: For Good. She recently starred in Ms. Rubik’s Cube, a film directed by Bai Xue. In 2026, she is set to star in the new television series Blade Runner 2099, which is executive-produced by Ridley Scott and will be available on Amazon Prime Video.
