Spotlight on WAVES at MIPCOM
WAVES Bazaar from India is set to make its debut at MIPCOM. The digital platform and summit, based in India, was created to facilitate connections between buyers and sellers in various entertainment sectors, such as movies, television, and video games. This marks its first appearance at MIPCOM, the largest global TV marketplace of the year. Supporting the WAVES project, a group from India’s Consulate General in Marseille will be present in Cannes. Key figures including Niraj Kumar, the Director of TV Broadcasting at the Indian Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and Vikram Singh Malik, Director of WAVES OTT, will also attend the event. After its inaugural summit in May, the WAVES team has actively promoted their platform at various industry events, including film festivals in Toronto and Busan, as well as the recent Iberseries conference in Madrid. Kumar expressed enthusiasm about the initiative, stating, “We are excited to introduce WAVES Bazaar at MIPCOM as a conduit linking India’s media and entertainment industry with worldwide markets, especially Europe. We aim to showcase the rich diversity of India’s creative output in television, film, animation, gaming, music, and immersive media.”
London Korean Film Festival Announces Milestone Program
The twentieth edition of the London Korean Film Festival will commence with the Gala world premiere of Kim Jong-kwan’s Frosted Window in November. The festival will conclude with Woo Min-ho’s Harbin, and Kang Hyoung-chul’s superhero comedy Hi-Five will enjoy a special screening. Scheduled from November 5 to 18, the festival will take place at BFI Southbank, Ciné Lumière, and ICA London venues. This year also introduces the LKFF Audience Award, allowing attendees to vote for their favorite film. Seunghye Sun, Director of the Korean Cultural Centre UK, reflected on the event: “As we mark this year’s London Korean Film Festival, I am inspired by a guiding principle of Korean aesthetics: all that is called is love. Cinema, at its core, is a manifestation of this principle, providing not just stories but a deeper insight into the broad spectrum of human experiences. Through its poetic tenderness and rich historical tales, Korean cinema demonstrates how love, in various forms, connects us to each other and the world around us.”
Inter Medya Explores Micro-Drama Genre
Inter Medya is venturing into the realm of micro-drama. The Turkish production and distribution company has announced the start of production on its first vertical drama series, which has not yet been named. The company plans to develop and distribute its own micro-drama titles as well as those produced by others. Micro-dramas typically debut on specialized apps and later transition to other online platforms. Inter Medya’s entry into micro-dramas is a natural step given its expertise in producing long-form telenovelas, which share similar dramatic and serialized storytelling elements. The company aims to “establish a varied portfolio of premium vertical dramas and position itself as a leading global partner for platforms looking for high-quality, mobile-first content.”
