John Travolta’s Directorial Debut To Play At The Cannes Film Festival; Under-The-Radar Film Is Backed By Apple

John Travolta to Unveil First Directorial Project at Cannes Film Festival

The eagerly awaited directorial debut of John Travolta, titled Propeller One-Way Night Coach, is set to make its global debut at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival this May, followed by a release on Apple TV on May 29.

This discrete project under Apple Original Films is based on a children’s book Travolta penned in 1997, dedicated to his son. The story infuses his lifelong enthusiasm for aviation, a field where he is not only passionate but also an experienced pilot.

A Nostalgic Voyage Through the Skies

In this mid-length feature, Travolta’s daughter Ella Bleu Travolta joins the cast, portraying a charming flight attendant. The narrative follows young aviation aficionado Jeff (portrayed by Clark Shotwell in his debut role) and his mother (played by Kelly Eviston-Quinnett) as they embark on a transcontinental adventure to Hollywood. What starts as a simple flight quickly turns into an unforgettable journey. Their experience is filled with classic airline meals, engaging flight attendants, serendipitous detours, eccentric fellow passengers, and exhilarating peeks into first class. These elements collectively shape a magical voyage that hints at shaping Jeff’s future.

The film will be featured in the festival’s Premiere Selection at the Debussy Theater inside the Palais des Festivals, with Travolta expected to attend. An initial promotional image has been released to tantalize potential viewers.

Travolta is no stranger to Cannes, having had three of his previous films screened there; Pulp Fiction (1994) and She’s So Lovely (1997) were shown in competition, while Primary Colors (1998) was featured out of competition.

Having started flying at the tender age of 15, Travolta, now 72, has advanced to piloting Boeing 707s, 737s, and 747s. He boasts the distinction of being the first private pilot to command an Airbus A380 and has even piloted aircraft in movies such as Look Who’s Talking (1989) and Broken Arrow (1996).
