The projected box office earnings for Jurassic World Rebirth indicate it could be one of the top debuts this summer. The film, directed by Gareth Edwards, known for his work on Godzilla and Rogue One, and penned by original franchise writer David Koepp, marks a fresh start with new characters venturing to Ile Saint-Hubert, a former InGen dinosaur research site. The ensemble cast features Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey, Rupert Friend, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Luna Blaise, Ed Skrein, among others.
With its premiere just three weeks away, Rebirth is expected to rake in between $115 million and $135 million over its five-day opening, per Deadline. This forecast positions it among the top summer openings, alongside James Gunn’s Superman on July 11, anticipated to earn $154–$175 million, and the MCU’s Fantastic Four: First Steps on July 25. Despite these strong numbers, Rebirth‘s opening would be the smallest among the Jurassic World films.
Implications of Jurassic World Rebirth’s Box Office Projections
Early Estimates Are Cautious
Jurassic World Rebirth is set to release on a Wednesday, providing it an extended five-day opening weekend instead of the usual three-day span. This marks only the second instance in the franchise to have a Wednesday release, after Jurassic Park III in 2001, which garnered $85 million in its first five days. Despite the advantageous longer opening, Rebirth’s current estimates still fall short of Jurassic World: Dominion’s $145 million debut in 2022. However, there’s still time for Rebirth to potentially surge in popularity.
Of the new trilogy, Jurassic World (2015) holds the record for the franchise’s best opening, pulling in $208 million, making it the seventh highest in U.S. box office history. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom followed in 2018 with a $148 million debut. With three weeks to go in its promotional efforts, Rebirth has the potential to adjust its projections upwards into the $145–$148 million range, similar to Dominion and Fallen Kingdom, although surpassing the 2015 Jurassic World remains unlikely.
Our Perspective on Jurassic World Rebirth’s Box Office Projections
Modest Opening Could Still Be Beneficial
Even a moderately lower opening could be beneficial for Jurassic World Rebirth, given its reported budget of $180 million. While substantial, this amount is significantly less than Dominion‘s $265 million and less than half of Fallen Kingdom‘s $432 million. Consequently, Rebirth would only need to make around $450 million to start turning a profit, compared to the over $1 billion required by Fallen Kingdom and about $662.5 million by Dominion.
Jurassic World Rebirth is scheduled for release in theaters on July 2.
