The movie Michael traces Jackson’s life right from his early days as a young boy fronting the Jackson 5 to his rise as a global music phenomenon. It provides an intimate exploration of his evolution from a child star to a legendary musician and also sheds light on his off-stage life.
In an interesting casting choice, Jaafar Jackson, Michael Jackson’s real-life nephew and son of Jermaine Jackson, plays the lead role. Jaafar, who started his music career at 12 and debuted with the single “Got Me Singing” in 2019, has previously participated in various family-oriented projects, including the reality TV series The Jacksons: Next Generation. Although he is accustomed to public attention, Michael marks his first major role in a film.
After a rigorous two-year selection process, Jaafar was officially cast in December 2023. His grandmother, Katherine Jackson, endorsed the casting, remarking that Jaafar not only reminds her of Michael but also “embodies” him. Jaafar expressed his gratitude on social media, stating he was honored to portray his uncle on the big screen.
