EXCLUSIVE: Indonesian music and screen star Agnez Mo — who recently made her English-language acting debut in season 4 of Amazon’s Reacher — has landed a new English-language film role.
Agnez will make her first on-camera English-language film appearance in the cyber-thriller C.L.A.Y., joining a cast that includes Nicolas Cage, Michael Sheen, Jordi Mollà, Emilio Sakraya and Adrian Topol.
Filming is set to begin this November in London. C.L.A.Y. marks the directorial debut of Simon Afram, who previously wrote and produced Simon West’s forthcoming WWII spy picture, Fortitude.
The story of C.L.A.Y. centers on a socially overlooked computer genius who discovers a sense of purpose and community after being pulled into an underground hacker collective called C.L.A.Y. (Clowns Laughing At You). The group turns provocative digital actions into real-world fallout, and as their fame escalates they draw the attention of intelligence agencies, criminal networks and competing hackers.
Agnez Mo is a massive pop figure in Indonesia — with some 31 million followers on Instagram — and has charted multiple entries on the U.S. Billboard charts. She is expanding her screen work in the U.S., and is also part of the voice cast for the animated feature Groove Tails alongside Ansel Elgort, Halle Bailey, Alan Ritchson and Ludacris.
Director-writer Afram praised Agnez as a global talent whose appeal crosses borders, describing her as a magnetic performer with fearlessness, intensity and deep emotional range, and said he’s delighted she’s joining the film’s ensemble.
The movie is being produced by Afram with Georgette Turner (Fortitude), Edward Kahl (Queen of Manhattan), Reza Roohi (Fortitude) and Adrian (Faking Bullshit). Executive producers attached include Bianca Goodloe (Mission: Impossible II), David Scaramanga (Fortitude), Cüneyt Kaya (Rising High) and Daniel Haido (Fortitude).
Casting duties are handled by Rich Mento (Warm Bodies), CSA. Legal counsel for the production is provided by Bianca Goodloe, Esq. of Goodloe Law.
Agnez Mo is represented by 42, AMO Entertainment and by Paul Rothenberg of Rothenberg Mohr & Binder, LLP.
