Thessaloniki: 'If I Go Will They Miss Me' by Walter Thompson-Hernández Joins Intl Competition

EXCLUSIVE: Walter Thompson-Hernández’s much-talked-about indie movie If I Go Will They Miss Me has been selected as one of ten films competing in the International Competition at this year’s Thessaloniki Film Festival.

If I Go Will They Miss Me premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and later received a theatrical release courtesy of James Shani’s Rich Spirit. The drama stars Danielle Brooks, J. Alphonse Nicholson and Bodhi Dell, and follows a boy who begins to see spectral visions of other boys in his neighborhood while struggling with the emotional distance of his father. These apparitions gradually reveal unexpected links between them and a mutual cultural legacy.

The International Competition jury at Thessaloniki this year is chaired by Gaia Furrer, who programs films and serves as Artistic Director of Giornate degli Autori. Joining her are Achilleas Kyriakidis, a writer, translator, screenwriter and filmmaker, and producer Jack Tarling.

The festival’s top honor, the Golden Alexander “Theo Angelopoulos” – Best Feature Film Award, includes a cash prize of €10,000, while the Silver Alexander – Best Direction Award carries €5,000. The jury will also present awards for Best Actor and Best Actress, and may additionally hand out a Best Screenplay Award or a Best Artistic Achievement Award.

Thessaloniki will take place from November 5 to November 15.
