EXCLUSIVE: In a competitive bidding situation, Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions has secured international distribution rights for a number of territories to two of A24’s awards-season titles, You Can See Everything and Primetime.
Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim’s documentary about Elizabeth Holmes, You Can See Everything, opened in North America this past weekend to landmark results — registering as one of the biggest limited-release debuts of the century and the largest opening for a documentary in over two decades. The film, a disorienting fly-on-the-wall portrait in which Theranos founder Holmes allows Fielder and Oppenheim unprecedented access to her home before her incarceration, has been earning extremely high marks on platforms such as Letterboxd, Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic.
Sony Pictures has acquired rights for You Can See Everything across Germany and Austria, Latin America, the Nordic countries, Greece, the Middle East, Israel, India, South Africa, South Korea and territories throughout Southeast Asia.
Primetime, a drama that played at Venice and is now showing in North American cinemas and in select international territories, has already surpassed $50 million at the global box office. The film stars Robert Pattinson as Chris Hansen, the Dateline NBC correspondent known for hosting the controversial yet widely watched series To Catch a Predator.
Sony Pictures picked up Primetime for release in the Middle East, Indonesia, Israel, Singapore, Switzerland, South Korea, South Africa, Thailand and Vietnam, and is planning theatrical rollouts in those markets.
These agreements reunite Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions with A24 after their collaboration on Materialists, which generated more than $70 million from international markets for Sony and pushed the film’s worldwide total past the $100 million threshold.
The A24 negotiations for Sony Pictures were led by Joe Matukewicz, President of Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions, along with Virginia Longmuir, EVP of Business Affairs, and Elan Kovo, Vice President of Business Development & FP&A.
