Exclusive Collaboration Announced for Alex Ullom’s Horror Film “4 X 4: The Event”
Spooky Pictures, in conjunction with Image Nation, has successfully secured the rights to produce Alex Ullom’s upcoming horror movie, 4 X 4: The Event, following intense competition among bidders.
Since his breakout film, the fantasy-horror road movie It Ends, which captivated audiences at this year’s SXSW, Ullom has become a highly sought-after filmmaker in the horror genre.
The production team for the new film includes Spooky Pictures co-founders Steven Schneider, known for his work on Paranormal Activity, Insidious, and Pet Sematary, and Roy Lee, notable for Weapons, It, and The Ring. They are joined by Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath of Divide / Conquer, producers of Black Phone 2 and M3GAN. Ben Ross, CEO of Image Nation, will serve as the executive producer.
Additionally, Ullom’s own production company, which he runs with producer Carrie Carusone (It Ends), will be involved in the production. Producers Haley Johnson (Obsession) and Evan Barber (It Ends) are also on board.
Ullom’s debut, It Ends, presented a chilling story of a group of recent graduates driving on a secluded, tree-lined road that quickly turns into a nightmare scenario.
While specific plot details for 4 X 4: The Event remain confidential, the film is touted as a cross between Battle Royale, Saw, and Climax.
The project has received full funding and has been greenlit for production, with filming scheduled for 2026. UTA Independent Film Group is set to handle the domestic sales of the film.
The partnership between Abu Dhabi’s Image Nation and the Los Angeles-based indie genre label Spooky Pictures was established in 2020. Their collaboration began with the psychological thriller Watcher, which made its debut at the Sundance Film Festival in 2022.
Since their initial collaboration, the partnership has produced several horror films including Late Night with the Devil, Charlie Polinger’s The Plague, and the anticipated Hokum starring Adam Scott. Another notable project is Majid Al Ansari’s The Vile, the first Arabic language film produced by the partnership.
Alex Ullom is represented by UTA, Entertainment 360, McKuin Frankel Whitehead LLP, and also has ties with Spooky Pictures, which is represented by UTA as well.
